I had a great time working on this song for Josh. I wanted it playful and happy which is typically what I think of when I think of a cat. So... I picked the happiest instrument I know of to play and record it with, the Ukulele. The production is very simple, just voice and ukulele to represent the simple relationship of cat and boy! I hope you enjoy it! Disclaimer: Be careful, you might start singing along! :o) Me and My Shadow Verse 1: A cat as black as blackest coal Dad and I saw out on a stroll, His steps were soft and his walk was slow, His eyes were bright with a golden glow. Verse 2: He followed me home hungry and cold He looked so tired, I wondered how old I gave him food and we played in the yard From that day on we've never been apart Chorus: Me and my shadow, My shadow and me. It was really cool to participate in the Sing Me a Story project. We came across Joshuas story about the cat that he and his father met, and the one he named Shawdow. We thought it was a really cool name for a cat. Perhaps if one of us has a cat in the future, well name it Shawdow/Shadow. One of the very cool things about being a musician is that you get to meet and collaborate with a lot of different talented other musicians, artists, poets, and storytellers and it was really interesting to collaborate with Joshua this way, even though weve never met. When we just came across the story, we really like it, we were excited to write a song, but we also were a little worried about how it was going to turn out, because we were thinking, what if were not going to do a good job with it. So were actually really glad that we put our concerns aside, because we think it turned out to be a pretty cool interesting song and we all really like it. Thank you, Joshua, for your contribution. Thanks for sharing, and we hope you embrace your creativity, let it grow, and never let it grow up!
